The Cobalt Connects - March 27th, 2012

Hello, right now I am going to tell you about our field trip we went on as a class to visit The Cobalt Connects. The Cobalt Connects is located in Jackson Square, where they have their own space for people to come when wanting to build a team and product.

We had the pleasure to meet Jeremy Freiburger who is the Chief Connector and Cultural Strategist and Steph Seagram who is involved in the Community Connections Lead.
The image to the left is of Jeremy and Steph.

They were both very welcoming and helpful in understanding how Cobalt Connects works. I really enjoyed going there and learning all about it. If you would like to learn more about Cobalt Connects - here is their website http://cobaltconnects.ca/ - its a great website and really helps you get an understanding of it.

Storyboard for New Mindsets

Hello all, here I have created a storyboard for a website called New MindSets. I wanted to make it fun for people to use and make it enjoyable while creating their courses.
The main page is flower pots that will have different wording on each of them, allow the student to access each one. Once they click on a flower pot for a certain category it will open them into a new page that will have the flower pot and gardening tools around it. Your mouse will be a watering can that will water your flower once you click on the different gardening tools. Each gardening tool will represent a different section to help build your course.

Final for the word "Return"

For this design I wanted to give that feeling of having someone you love return home from a trip. I still always get excited when someone I love is home. It's always nice to go away on a trip or for school and knowing that feeling when you come home how happy you are to see everyone again!

Final for word "puzzled"

Here is my image for the word "puzzled". I like this one. It's simple and gets the point across. I wanted to have the people looking confused and puzzled and tie it into my theme of travel. If any of you of been to a country where you don't know their language or where anything is, than you know what these two people are thinking!

Inspiration Image for the word "puzzled"

I decided to use this image created by J.P Miller. I love J.P Miller's artwork. Again, I wanted to go with the cartoon look. All my designs are like that. These images inspire me to draw unrealistic images!

Inspiration Image for the word "vocal"

This image is designed by J.P Miller. I used it for inspiration for my design for the word "vocal". I wanted to use the cartoon look, that's unrealistic but real at the same time. I thought one was simple but yet creative and got the point across. That's what I wanted my design to look like.

Inspiration Picture for the word "popularity"

I used this image designed by Maurice Logan for my inspiration for my design for the word "popularity". I chose this image because I liked the idea of her being on the beach and enjoying her time away.
I decided to put someone on the beach, enjoying the sun but allowing popularity to get in the way and is unable to actually enjoy her time away.

Emotional Labour Quiz

Today I have been asked to describe what I think "Emotional Labour" is, and include links and screen captures from any websites of three people or organizations that I have discovered and begun to follow.

I'm going to begin by putting in my own words what I feel "Emotional Labour" is.
To me, "Emotional Labour" is expressing certain emotions because you want to give off a good vibe to the consumers, customers and/or clients, that other people don't want to do. These people go out and create websites, or blogs to help you and give you information or products that you may need to help benefit you. You are there to make the money you deserve by your attitude towards it. You are giving what the customers, consumers, and/or clients want, which keeps them wanting more. Emotional Labour is expressing your positive feelings and emotions.

I don't really follow many people or organizations. The main one I follow is 1001freefonts.com. I follow this website because it allows me to find fonts for free. Being in a Graphic Design program, finding creative fonts to use for free is pretty handy because we use a lot of typography and if I had to pay for all the fonts I use than I would be using the same one over and over again. It's nice that someone takes the time to design this website and add new fonts everyday. Here are some screen captures of the website and how much work they put into.

- on the website, you have the option of previewing it and selecting what computer type you use.

- the website gives you so many different types of fonts to choose from.

Another website that I have followed and will continue to follow is http://www.morguefile.com. This website is very helpful when looking for high resolution images. It is sometimes impossible to find high resolution images. It is nice to be able to go to a website and download images for use for school work.

- the website offers free images.

 - they give so many different themes to choose from.

I feel that I must start following more websites and blogs. I am having a hard time trying to figure out my last website or blog. So I am going to chose our class blog www.grap10009.blogspot.com. It is a very helpful website if you miss a class or didn't understand something, you are able to go to the blog and it will have what you didn't understand, explained in a way that you can understand it. Our teacher posts everything that goes on with our class and it is a great idea to have this blog for our class. The blog is updated after every class and explains what was discussed or done in class. It also has all the blogs from my classmates on it and allows me to see their work.

After doing this blog for the Emotional Labour Quiz, I have decided that I am going to start following more websites or blogs of organizations and people. I have realized that it is important to look up information and learn about social media. I wish I would of started doing this earlier. Having a blog has helped me express my work and show what I have to offer. I have learnt that using social media helps you show what you have designed and allows you to interact with other people and receive feedback from them and give your feedback.
Getting feedback is very important, it helps you improve and learn from your mistakes. In the end, it helps you become a better designer and helps you improve your skills in connecting with others.

FINAL - Popularity

People travel to get away from the world for a while. Now a days, when people travel its not really "getting away" when they are sitting on their phones or computers the entire time. I designed this ad for Travel Now because we dare you to turn your phone off the entire vacation, I bet a lot of people couldn't do it.

My mother
This is the image I used for my face of my International Women's Day poster. This is my mother, she is the strongest woman I know.

My pencil outline
Here is my pencil outline of my poster. I decided to make my mom into a super hero. All mothers deserve to be appreciated this day, they are all super heros to their children.

FINAL

Finally, here is my final advertising poster! I really like how it has all came together. It gives the feeling of her excitement that she is going away on vacation. I enjoyed making this advertising poster for the word twirl.

progress of artwork...

getting the idea of how I want the girl to look while twirling. Seeing how the red will look. Enjoying it so far!

Deciding on how I want the girl to look. But here is the progress so far of it... Like the image I used for inspiration, I will have the girl starting at the dress, no legs showing. I'm trying to get the feel of the word twirl. I will be adding more effects to make it all come together.

WEEK 3 - TWIRL

So.. another week has come around and this word for the week is "twirl".
I chose to do this image by Tod Draz. This image is simple but at the same time says a lot. I really like the colour contour he has chosen to do. That's what inspired me, so I will be doing my final like this as well. I love how it is just one colour and it really makes the artwork stand out.

FINAL FOR WEEK 2

Here is my final! I really like how this ad turned out. It makes me laugh! Hope you guys enjoy it! :)

WEEK 2 - Prepare

Hey guys, its time for the new word of the week on illustrationfriday.com, which is "prepare".
I have decided when putting my theme travel and the word prepare together that I come up with making an advertisement ad for Imodium. I think that it works well with my travel idea. I chose to do this because there is nothing worse than that feeling and knowing your not prepared.
I've decided to use this image by Al Parker for my inspiration. I feel like the layout is perfect for what I want to do and works well with them the whole travel theme!
I hope you guys like what I come up with.
Stay tuned for thumbnails and my final!

FINAL ARTWORK

MY FINAL POSTER ARTWORK!

Hey guys. I finally finished my final artwork! I really enjoy the overall feel to it and feel it turned out better than I imagined it in my head.
So, I decided to make an advertising poster for travel. This image is two people sitting on a beach, enjoying their time together. Family makes you grounded and what's better than being on vacation with your family!

Hope you guys enjoy it!
Can't wait to do next week's challenge!

Lauren :)

IWD - THUMBNAILS

Here are my thumbnails for my International Women's day poster. I decided to use the layout of the artwork I chose that inspired me and change it into a mom (inspired by my mom), and make her a superhero. I feel like mothers should be really noticed on this day because to us (kids) they can take on the world. My mom is a big inspiration to me. She is the strongest woman I know and I look up to her more than anyone in this world. All mother's are inspirations to their children, and they should be noticed for all the amazing things they do!
IMAGE OF INSPIRATION:

Here is the image I chose that inspired me. This artwork is created by Al Parker. I just love the overall design and concept of this image. Every time I look at it I see a mother that can do all things! She looks like a wonder woman! It reminds me of my mom. She inspired me more than anyone in this world.

THUMBNAILS

- I had a hard time thinking of what I could do for this week's word (Grounded)... After trying to figure out what I enjoy and than cooperate the two things together, this is what I came up with...

-First off, I chose to do a travel theme.
Here are my thumbnails...The images here show two people sitting on a beach, enjoy the beautiful weather and just staring out into the ocean. I felt this worked for the word grounded because they are just sitting there in a beautiful place, enjoying life, without a worry in the world. They feel grounded being together.

Image of Inspiration

IMAGE OF INSPIRATION:
I chose this piece of art from Al Parker because I love the colour scheme! I really enjoy the black and white tones, along with a little bit of colour. I will be using this colour scheme for my final artwork. Its very eye-catching and I think it will work great for my final!

WELCOME

Hi all, I just want to welcome all of you to my blog. This is my first time blogging and I never thought I would do this. I am very excited to share with all of you my ideas and final artwork. I am starting a 14 week challenge! I'll start by finding a picture from an artist that inspires me, where I will take that image and make it my own into something I enjoy. The image I create will be designed from the word of the week from www.illustrationfriday.com.  I will be blogging my ideas and finals every week!

Stay tune for my first week of inspiration! :)
